Steve took me to see these rather other-wordly fungi in the woods behind the house yesterday. It really looked like someone had spray-painted the tree fluorescent orange from a distance, and close up it was an even more spectacular show.
I love the contrast between the tree bark, the fungus and the delicate white flowers in this last one.
A few days later we found out that these were edible. By the time we got up there to harvest a few, they had unfortunately all been taken. At least we'll know for next year!
